
Ohio State University delegates unveiled their interest to partnership: The Ohio State University (OSU) delegates visited Mary Joy Development Association on December 9, 2012. The delegates encompass OSU’s professors, Deans and researchers. The visit was aimed to establish partnership between MJDA and OSU on community health outreach program, volunteer mobilization and in-service training programs. The delegates visited the MJDA medical center’s activities and integrated community development programs as well as discussion has been held among the team members and MJDA’s management on the focus of the partnership and sustainability of MJDA’s health programs. The visitors were accompanied by Professor Tirusew Tefera (Dean, College of Education and Behavioral Studies, Addis Ababa University) and Dr. Mekasha Kassaye (Assistant Professor in English Language Pedagogy and Higher Education Policy and Management) and Ethiopian Medical Student Association’s Executives.

Who are we?
Mary Joy Development Association (MJDA) is a nongovernmental, non religious, non political and nonprofit making organization established under the Civil Societies and Charity Agency of the Democratic Republic of Ethiopia with registration number 060. The idea of MJDA emerged with the inception of the present Executive Director Sister Zebider Zewdie with a remarkable support of other fellows.

Governance
The highest governing body of the organisation is the General Assembly which has over 43 members (of which 9 are females and the rest are males). The General Assembly is followed by the Board of Directors which has got 5 members (2 females and 3 males) and the secretariat.
The Board of Directors is followed by a senior and extended Management Committee. This comprises of the Executive Director, Program, Finance and Administration Directors, Medical Directors and Area Program Managers who are responsible for undertaking the day to day activities of the organization respectively. A system of monitoring tools is in place and the Board formally communicates with the General Assembly once a year, whilst the Executive Director and the Management reports quarterly to the Board.
MJDA consists of experienced professionals from different disciplines in particular from social science, medical, managerial skills and has collective work experience in HIV&AIDS prevention, poverty reduction, and health and education.

Where Mary Joy is operational
TARGET AREAS :
MJ -DA intervenes in two regions Addis Ababa and Southern Nations and Nationalities based at four coordination office (Kolfei, Yeka , Hawassa, Dilla) that constitutes nine satellite offices located in Southern nations and nationalities, Sidama zone, Gedoi Zone and Halabakulito special woreda. Mary Joy covers 63 Kebeles and has been benefiting over 1,580,475 people directly and indirectly.TARGET GROUPS:
Children with particular emphasis of orphan and vulnerable children, destitute older person, people living with HIV/AIDS, women, youth, livelihood sex workers and factory workers are the main disadvantaged groups of people the organization paying attention to.
